The Morningstar EcoBoost EB-MPPT-30 is a 30 amp MPPT solar charge controller for off-grid solar power systems. It automatically detects 12V or 24V battery systems and uses Morningstar's TrakStar MPPT technology to continually track the true maximum power point as sunlight conditions change. It is rated for a nominal maximum operating power of 400W @40C on a 12V battery or 800W @40C on a 24V battery, with PV open circuit voltage up to 120 volts, and it helps protect batteries from over-discharge while two USB ports let it charge mobile devices directly from solar power.
Product Features:
- Uses Morningstar's TrakStar MPPT technology to determine and adjust to the true maximum power point as solar insolation changes throughout the day.
- Delivers high efficiency at low, medium and high power levels, with a peak efficiency of 98%.
- Includes two USB ports with 3 amps of shared charging capacity for charging mobile devices.
- Continuously monitors and reports system errors through status LEDs or the optional meter.
- Can use the PV array to switch loads on at dusk and off at dawn for lighting control.
- Allows DC loads to be connected directly to the controller, with a programmable load disconnect to protect the battery.
- Supports two PV modules wired in series to charge either a 12V or 24V battery system.
- Features a rugged, maintenance-free design with a conformally coated circuit board and corrosion-resistant terminals.
Application Areas:
- Off-grid solar power systems for cabins, vehicles, boats and remote equipment.
- Remote and telecommunications sites needing reliable battery charging from solar.
- Dusk-to-dawn lighting control using the solar array as a light sensor.
- Direct DC load management where connected loads need protection from battery over-discharge.
Selection & Installation Notes:
- Size the solar array within the EB-MPPT-30's nominal maximum operating power of 400W @40C for a 12V battery or 800W @40C for a 24V battery, and keep the PV open circuit voltage below the 120 volt maximum.
- The EB-MPPT-30 does not include a built-in meter; choose the EB-MPPT-30M for a built-in meter, or add the optional meter accessory to access live and historical performance data.
- Suitable for extreme environments thanks to an operating temperature range of -40C to +60C, along with corrosion-resistant terminals and conformally coated circuitry.
- An optional remote temperature sensor accessory is available to improve charging accuracy across varying battery temperatures.
