The Morningstar MRC-1 is a Meterbus (RJ11) to EIA-485 adapter that lets Morningstar controllers and inverters fitted with a Meterbus port, but no EIA-485 port, join an EIA-485 communications network. It converts the Meterbus electrical interface to a standard four-wire EIA-485 bus, enabling networking with EIA-485 devices such as the GenStar MPPT and TriStar MPPT controllers. The adapter also supports EIA-485 communications with third-party hardware that uses Modbus, giving system integrators a straightforward way to bring Meterbus-only devices into a wider monitoring or control network.
Product Features:
- Converts the Morningstar Meterbus RJ-11 electrical interface to a standard EIA-485 interface.
- Supports a four-wire EIA-485 bus carrying GND, Data A, Data B and Power.
- Supplies isolated power to the EIA-485 network, removing the need for a separate bus power source in many installations.
- Includes reverse polarity protection at its EIA-485 power terminals.
- Backed by a five year limited warranty.
Application Areas:
- Networking Morningstar controllers or inverters that only have a Meterbus port, such as ProStar MPPT and PWM controllers, SunSaver MPPT, SunSaver Duo and SureSine Classic, onto an EIA-485 bus.
- Connecting Meterbus-equipped Morningstar devices to EIA-485 products like the GenStar MPPT and TriStar MPPT controllers.
- Linking Morningstar Meterbus devices to third-party EIA-485 equipment that communicates over Modbus.
Selection & Installation Notes:
- Confirm the Morningstar device has a Meterbus port rather than a built-in EIA-485 port before fitting the MRC-1.
- The MRC-1 is compatible with ProStar MPPT and PWM controllers, SunSaver MPPT, SunSaver Duo and SureSine Classic inverters; check your model against this list.
- Because the adapter can supply isolated power to the EIA-485 network, a separate bus power source may not be required in many setups.
